ASTM A105 Specifications

ASTM A105 is a material specification for Carbon Steel forged pipeline components such as flanges, pipe fittings, valves, rings, round bars and many other forging parts, used for industrial piping applications. The specification covers chemical, mechanical and other requirements for carbon steel forgings intended for ambient and high temperature service in pressure piping systems. ASTM A105 product can be ordered either to dimensions specified by the buyer or to dimensional standards such as ANSI, ASME, API or MSS.

Carbon Equivalent

The maximum carbon equivalent, based on heat analysis, shall be 0.47 for forgings with a maximum section thickness of 2 in. or less, and 0.48 for forgings with a maximum section thickness of greater than 2 in. Determined by below formula;
CE = C + Mn/6 + (Cr + Mo + V)/5 + (Ni + Cu)/15
